- Portland State University: BS in Micro/Molecular Biology with a minor in chemistry

My professional career started as a High School math teacher in the Portland, Oregon area for seven years. This was followed by working as an electrician for another seven years. I enjoyed both teaching and construction work, but eventually decided to follow my passion of becoming a dentist. Dentistry allows me to serve my community in a very meaningful way that I find both rewarding and satisfying. Through the practice of dentistry, my detail-oriented personality and my passion for science and artistic form are satisfied and expressed. Dentistry is so much more than just a job, it is a joy that energizes me; I love my clients and joining them on their quest for oral health and a great smile. I treat my clients as if they were family and give careful consideration to both clinical evidence and their treatment goals.
Outside of work, my wife and I enjoy hiking, camping and cooking. On the weekends, we can be found hiking somewhere in the Cascade Mountains or camping out with friends. At home, I have been challenged with perfecting the art of BBQ on my smoker/grill. The hobby of high-powered-rocketry has also resurfaced from my youth and we fly rockets with the Oregon Rocketry Association over the summer months.
Marcus Peterson, DDS
From a young age, Marcus Peterson has dedicated his life to excellence and he hopes to bring that to your oral health. Whether as Valedictorian of Cottonwood High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, with a 4.0 GPA, or having taken enough Advanced Placement exams to enter college at the University of Utah as a Junior on a full ride scholarship, or having placed 7th in the entire country on the DAT to enter dental school, Dr. Peterson has committed to a life of distinction.
In dental school, his professors honored him with the “Best of the Best” award, given to the student they deemed the top clinical dentist in the class. He was also the only student who graduated with a perfect score on his preclinical board exams. In the Navy he was stationed on the USS Austin LPD-4, and was honored with a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal while deployed to the Persian Gulf He was further recognized as the “#1 dentist on the waterfront, setting the bar for his peers”.
After completing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Great Lakes Naval Dental Center and along with further examination, Dr. Peterson was awarded Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Peterson’s commitment to continuing dental education has equipped him with the skills and knowledge to be proficient at many dental procedures normally only performed by specialists.
What truly sets Dr. Peterson apart though is his dedication to his patients. When you are in his dental chair you become the most important person in the world, and he will only recommend treatment and perform it as if you were part of his family.
Dr. Peterson has been married for 13 years to his wife, Dawn, and is a proud father of two boys, Lincoln, 7, and Alexander, 4. One of his favorite hobbies is skiing and he enjoys sharing this passion with his kids. His focus on fitness has also inspired him to train to be a triathlete. Last fall he completed his first Olympic length triathlon and he is actively training to complete a half Ironman triathlon this year.
