Sometimes, dentures tend to slip and slide around in the mouth. If your denture does these things, our Smiles Dental team has a recommendation that will give you the sturdy and reliable results you desire: take advantage of denture adhesives!
Denture adhesives are great products that generally come in the form of a paste or powder. If you apply these products to your appliance, your denture will stay in place and give you the reliability you seek. However, the only way the adhesive is safe is if you use it correctly. So, to help you take full advantage of this product, Dr. Dr. Clint Guttman and Dr. Marcus Peterson has provided the following instructions:
-Paste adhesive: To properly apply this adhesive, you need to avoid placing it on the borders of the appliance. When applying the paste to an upper jaw denture, put three strips of the adhesive on the appliance—two along the ridge area and one down the center. For the lower jaw, apply three short strips of paste down the center of the ridge area.
-Powder adhesive: This adhesive is a bit easier to use than the paste. All you need to do is sprinkle a thin layer of the adhesive throughout the tissue-bearing surface of the denture. Then, shake off the excess powder and put the appliance in your mouth.
