There are many things you can do to keep your teeth, gums, and jaw in tip-top shape while you play sports, and some of those things are:
Wear a mouthguard
A mouthguard is a strong and reliable appliance that fits snug over your teeth to protect your smile. This is a great tool to have when you participate in high-contact sports or in activities that threaten your oral health. So, if you want to keep your teeth intact or if you want to maintain an aligned jaw, please wear a mouthguard.
Avoid drinking sports drinks
It’s best to drink water while you are active. Water is much better than sports drinks because the sports drinks contain high amounts of sugar and acid. And, if you’re not careful, the sugar can cause tooth decay and the acid can wear down your tooth enamel. If water isn’t quite enough for you, you can drink unsweetened coconut water.
Fight dry mouth
Dry mouth is a common dental issue among athletes, and it occurs when an insufficient amount of saliva is produced. When this happens, food particles remain in the mouth and your oral cavity turns into a breeding ground for bacteria. To help this situation, keep a bottle of water handy and brush your teeth after your games and practices.
